Supporting Underrepresented population is the answer for courses with large numbers of students?

While talking with colleague about MOOC, collaborative learning in a large classroom, and my dissertation research findings, I thought “supporting underrepresented population” is the key of future large size learning environments. Large size learning environments include, face-to-face classrooms in large lecture hall with more than 100+ students or MOOC setting.

Considering my dissertation findings, catching up and supporting underachieving students’ learning is one of the key elements of the effectiveness of collaborative learning and individual learning. Why don’t we design learning environments that will intensively support underachieving students while higher achieving students still earn learning achievements? But, how can we meet the needs of both higher and lower achieving student groups? How to evaluate them? Is there any way that I can combine my ideas with peer tutoring?
